What is MAKO?

MAKO study

With the Mannheim Incidence and Cohort Study (MAKO), we want to assess the mental health of the Mannheim population.

We want to explore how many people in Mannheim are affected by a serious mental illness for the first time in their lives. Additionally, we seek to investigate the life circumstances and experiences that may influence the onset of mental illness. Our study also delves into aspects of positive mental health, such as life satisfaction, happiness, and overall well-being.

We are driven by questions such as: What factors put the mental well-being of the Mannheim population at risk? Which life circumstances are associated with satisfaction and happiness, as well as stress or early indications of mental illness? Who is particularly at risk? What helps us to recover after a difficult time?

What is our goal?

The results of our research are intended to enhance our comprehension of the risks to our health. Our aim is to better strategize and optimize the provision of treatment services that effectively meet the diverse needs of the Mannheim population.

In order to be able to make reliable statements about the entire population of Mannheim, it is crucial to us to include residents from all parts of the city. Additionally, we encourage the participation of individuals from diverse cultural, ethnic, and individual backgrounds to ensure the study's inclusivity and relevance.

We are actively looking for participants for the study in these districts:

  1. Innenstadt / Jungbusch
  2. Neckarstadt-West
  3. Neckarstadt-Ost
  4. Schwetzingerstadt / Oststadt
